IN THE STREETS  

  • Whenever you go to a bank and withdraw a huge amount of money, please make sure you are not being followed.
  • Avoid bumping into other people or that they come too close to you. Mistrust those people offering to clean stains on your clothes or when you are told something has fallen to the ground. They may take advantage of the situation to steal your wallet.
  • Always carry your handbag fastened and secure. In case of mobile telephones, wallets or other personal belongings carried in the pockets of trousers or jackets, secure them and keep your eyes on them.
  • Write down in a piece of sheet the identification data regarding the valuables you have and keep it apart. Describe which object it is, the make, model and the serial number. Tell the police when making the formal complaint.
  • Mistrust people who offer you a cheaper exchange rate. Always go to official exchange centres.
 
WATER AND ITS RISKS

  • When being in areas suitable for bathing, children require the utmost attention. Floats and mats do not eliminate risks. You must always have to stay alert and prevent them from going out at sea.
  • In the case of bathing areas in the interior, you should control the quality of the water. Observe the environment and choose a place free of pipes and other elements which may indicate us that the area is not suitable for bathing.
  • Swim in watched over areas and respect the flags. Lonely places can be more attractive but they may be dangerous.
  • Do not enter suddenly in the water. Wet your face, nape and wrists before bathing. This preventive measure has to be followed specially if you are not fully fit or after having lunch.
  • Before diving into the water you have to make sure of the depth and the environment. Careful with rocky bottoms or with the presence of vessels that might cause us a problem.
  • When at sea, we will take into account the kind of waves, undercurrents in order to take extra precautions.
 
IN THE COUNTRYSIDE

  • Before camping take into account the physical conditions of the ground in order to avoid problems due to strong rain, wind etc. Therefore, do not pitch the tent in slopes or unsteady ground.
  • Light fire is banned unless appropriate facilities are available. Do not litter or contaminate waters in near rivers or lakes.
 
IN THE MOUNTAIN

  • Do not go hiking alone through the mountain if you do not know the area or the itinerary to be covered.
  • Carry on your bag a map, a compass and a mobile phone with full battery. Warm clothes are also necessary even if weather conditions are good.
  • If you get lost try to head for a valley bottom and avoid going up to higher levels. Follow the paths down the mountain and try to keep calm.
 
DRIVING A CAR

  • European Union citizens are allowed to drive cars throughout the Union. A driving license issued in any member State will be valid in the other Member States.
  • The minimum driving age in Spain is 18. However, car rental companies usually require to be over 20.
  • Within common territory the green card is not needed. However you must carry a document to certify that you are covered by an insurance.
  • Like other States in the European Union, front and rear seat belts are compulsory.
  • Within the territory of the European Union it is forbidden to use mobile phones while driving due to the risk of potential accidents caused by lapses of concentration on the driver’s part.
  • If you are going to drive, avoid alcohol and drugs. These substances have an effect on your perception of reality and may cause accidents.
  • Always observe the speed limit on road signs.
